Game of the week

Ansbach at Kaiserslautern
Wiesbaden at Hohenfels
While a major Division I clash between Ramstein and Stuttgart is the clear highlight of this weekend’s light baseball slate, two other large-school squads are presented with problematic lower-division matchups.
Kaiserslautern hosts 2016 Division II/III semifinalist Ansbach, a perennially formidable small school with the potential to add to the Raiders’ recent frustrations. Kaiserslautern was denied a full title shot in losing a weather-shortened championship game to Ramstein last spring, and was forced to forfeit its season-opening doubleheader last month due to player availability for a number of reasons. A regulation sweep of the tough Cougars would do wonders for a program in need of a psychological boost.
Wiesbaden, meanwhile, flashed its considerable upside just before spring break in ending Ramstein’s three-year DODEA-Europe winning streak. But that signature win can’t fully write off the grim reality of the Warriors’ 1-3 record, which includes a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Stuttgart and a blowout loss in the other half of their set with Ramstein. A pair of wins over Hohenfels this weekend would pull the Warriors back to .500.
