NAPLES, Italy — A memorial service will be held Wednesday for a Naples, Italy-based sailor killed last week in a car crash in the Naples suburb of Pozzuoli, a Navy official said.

The service honoring Petty Officer 3rd Class Dawn E. Holt is set for 3 p.m. at the chapel on the Navy’s Capodichino base.

Holt, assigned to headquarters command of Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Sigonella and stationed in Naples, was on her way to work Thursday when her car collided with another vehicle at 2:21 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Italian authorities.

Holt enlisted in the Navy from her hometown of Monroe, Ga., in 2007. She was 36, the Navy official said. The Italian newspaper Il Mattino had reported Monday that she was 34. Holt was traveling alone in her Renault. One of the four people in the second vehicle suffered minor injuries, according the U.S. Navy official.

She had served at Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Ill., Naval Technical Training Center in Meridian, Miss., and aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington.
