The Navy enlisted 45,112 new sailors and surpassed its 45,000 recruitment goal for fiscal year 2026, which ended Wednesday.
“Surpassing this accession mission is therefore more than a recruiting milestone — it is a direct injection of readiness into the fleet,” Adm. Daryl Caudle, Chief of Naval Operations, said in a statement.
The Navy announced in July it had secured enough contracts for the year but still had to ensure each recruit shipped out on time to basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes, Ill. It did so and will begin this new fiscal year with 13,508 recruits in the delayed entry program, the service said.
The Navy has set its recruiting goal again at 45,000 in fiscal year 2027, which began Thursday.
This is the third year in a row the Navy has exceeded its recruiting goal, along with the Army and Air Force, after missing the mark in 2023. It enlisted 44,096 sailors in fiscal year 2025, more than 3,000 over its 40,600 goal.
Following 2023, the service said it dove into modernizing its systems and changing the way it set and oversaw milestones throughout the year. The Navy moved paperwork into digital systems and gave recruiters more technology “to focus entirely on building relationships rather than managing paperwork,” according to an impact report analyzing recruiting progress for the past three fiscal years.
From a recruiting operations center, personnel monitored digital dashboards to look for trends and handle significant situations that could impact recruits arriving at boot camp, such as severe weather.
Rear Adm. Forrest Young, commander of Navy Recruiting Command, said in a statement the achievement belonged to the thousands of recruiters, sailors, civilians and partners across the command.
“They have demonstrated what is possible when we combine talented people with the right tools, resources, and sense of urgency. More importantly, every sailor we recruit and sent to training represents greater capability and depth for our fleet,” he said.
The Air Force Recruiting Service also announced its total enlistments for FY 2026 on Thursday: 31,950 airmen and 730 guardians.
