(Tribune News Service) — A sailor whose body was found at Naval Station Norfolk died by suicide, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Fireman Apprentice Isaac Morris, an engineman, disappeared the evening of June 14, and his body was found in the water near the piers five days later.
His cause of death was drowning, an OCME spokesperson confirmed Monday.
“The entire Truman team is grieving the loss of Fireman Apprentice Isaac Morris,” Capt. Daniel Prochazka, commanding officer of USS Harry S. Truman said after Morris’ body was discovered. “Our hearts are with his family, friends and shipmates, and we are focused on supporting them with care and compassion during this difficult time.”
Morris, who was from California, joined the Navy in October 2025 and reported to the Truman in April.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service did not immediately respond to questions about the status of its investigation.
