A fire aboard the Freedom-class littoral combat ship USS Indianapolis on Wednesday morning while in port at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Fla., caused minor injuries to seven sailors, the Navy said Thursday.
Mayport Fire and Emergency Services and the ship’s crew responded immediately and quickly extinguished the localized fire.
“At approximately 11:30 a.m. local time on June 24, 2026, a fire was reported on USS Indianapolis (LCS-17) while the warship was moored at Naval Station Mayport,” Navy Surface Force Atlantic said in a statement. “Seven shipboard personnel were evaluated at local hospitals for minor injuries. All have since been released and cleared to return to the ship that same afternoon.”
The cause of the incident is being reviewed.
