Two crew members are safe after ejecting from a U.S. Navy T-45C Goshawk trainer jet that crashed Tuesday on private farmland in Noxubee County, Miss., the Navy said in a statement.

The crew members are being evaluated at a local medical center. Both are assigned to Training Air Wing One at Naval Air Station Meridian.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

“The public is asked to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to conduct their operations safely and preserve the site for investigators,” Chief of Naval Air Training said.

In recent years, Goshawk jets have experienced a series of malfunctions that prompted the Navy to impose temporary safety pauses to evaluate the aircraft and review flight operations. Goshawks are primarily used to train Navy and Marine aircraft carrier pilots.
