(Tribune News Service) — Following the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran this weekend, the U.S. Naval Academy and Naval Support Activity Annapolis increased security measures and restricted access to both campuses.
The United States and Israel bombed Iran on Saturday and Sunday, killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several top Iranian officials and hundreds more. President Donald Trump said he was willing to speak with Iran’s new leadership.
According to social media posts from the US Naval Academy and Naval Support Activity Annapolis, the visitor control center and gate 1 of the Naval Academy will be closed. General public visitation has been suspended as well, and all IDs will be checked. Security measures at all gates have been increased.
Visitation related to Naval Academy events is still permitted. Visitors without the correct clearance will ride a shuttle bus from the Press Box side of the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. All visitors are required to present a Real ID and to expect additional screening before boarding the shuttle.
Parents picking the children up from STEM camp will be allowed on the Naval Academy base at the end of the event at Gate 8.
Trusted Traveler, a system allowing credentialed Naval Academy members to escort a noncredentialed guest, has been suspended. Greenbury Point, a Naval Academy conservation area, is closed until further notice. ©2026 The Baltimore Sun.
