NAPLES, Italy — Personal information on some sailors might have been compromised when items were stolen last week from a car parked at a shopping mall in the Naples area, according to the U.S. Navy in Naples, Italy.
The car of a sailor, assigned to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Stations Naples, was broken into while parked at the Campania Mall. Inside were items containing personal information, officials said. They did not provide details.
The command notified, and is working with, individual sailors to help prevent possible incidents of identity theft.
The Navy also suggested members monitor credit reports and read tips to safeguard personal information by visiting the Federal Trade Commission’s Web site at http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft for guidance on protective action, or go to http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt150.shtm.
