YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — The Navy announced a new service-wide substance abuse prevention campaign Wednesday.

The campaign, called “Who Will Stand Your Watch?”, is aimed at educating sailors on the negative effects of substance abuse, particularly focusing on how their absence would affect their friends and families.

“Substance abuse puts lives and missions at risk, undercuts unit readiness and morale,” Dorice Favorite, Navy Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention director, said in a Navy release. “Preventing substance abuse from occurring rather than dealing with the consequences benefits everyone.”

Public service announcements filmed for the campaign features actual sailors in their workplace and portray the importance of their work and presence, according to the release. The spots are set to air on Direct to Sailor TV and on the Navy Command website
