Coast Guard jet carrying Homeland Security secretary lands safely after engine failure

A Coast Guard jet made an emergency landing Wednesday at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington after experiencing an engine failure.

The C-37 Gulfstream V jet had 14 people aboard, including Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. They all landed safely.

“The United States Coast Guard pilots made the single engine landing feel routine. No panic, just straight professionalism. After we landed, the pilots told me that was a first for them! We could not have been in better hands,” Mullin said in a post on X.

The twin-engine jet lost its right engine and had about 2.5 hours of fuel remaining, according to an audio recording from the pilot.
