Coast Guard helicopter with 4 aboard crashes in Alaska

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk search and rescue helicopter crashed near Sitka, Alaska during a training flight with four people on board, the Coast Guard said Monday afternoon.

“Rescue crews from Sitka Fire and Rescue arrived on scene at approximately 11 a.m. and transported all four crew members to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center,” said Lt. Pam Manns, public affairs officer at U.S. Coast Guard Arctic District Public Affairs in Juneau, Alaska.

No deaths were reported, the Coast Guard said. They provided no other information about the crew.

Watchstanders at Arctic District command center received a report of the crash at approximately 10:07 a.m., Alaska time.

The Coast Guard said it was investigating the incident.

“The safety, well-being, and rescue of our crew members is our absolute, immediate priority,” the Coast Guard said in an X post. “The cause of the incident is not yet known. A formal investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.”
