Soldier dies in engineering equipment accident at Kentucky’s Fort Knox

(Tribune News Service) — A soldier at Kentucky’s Fort Knox U.S. Army base died Tuesday in an engineering equipment accident, according to Army officials.

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. at the base’s motor pool, a branch of the transportation division that stores and takes care of Army vehicles and equipment. The Army said the soldier was working at the motor pool when engineering equipment fell on them.

The soldier was flown to University of Louisville Hospital, where they later died, according to the Army. The soldier’s identity wasn’t provided as of Wednesday morning.

No other information about the incident was provided.

The Army said the incident appears to be accidental, but the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division is investigating, which is standard procedure.
