Fort Bragg soldier killed in motorcycle collision

An Army specialist assigned to Fort Bragg in North Carolina was killed in a motorcycle accident earlier in July, according to the Army.

Spc. Omarion R. Nesmith, 23, died at the scene, said XVIII Airborne Corps spokesman Lt. Col. Jon Daniell in an email Tuesday.

On July 10, Nesmith was riding his motorcycle off post when he collided with a tractor trailer at an intersection in Bladen County about an hour from Fort Bragg, Daniell wrote.

He was declared dead by the Bladen County Medical Examiner. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating, the spokesman said.

Nesmith’s mother, Carla Orozco, created a GoFundMe page to help cover his memorial and other expenses. Nearly $4,000 has been raised so far.

“He leaves behind an amazing family and community that supported his every decision. He also leaves behind his fellow brothers and sisters in arms,” she wrote.

Since fiscal year 2021, the Army has lost an average of 31 soldiers a year to motorcycle mishaps. This mishap was the 18th motorcycle fatality of fiscal year 2026, according to the Army.
