Soldiers with the 3rd Division Sustainment Brigade, known as the “Dogface Soldiers,” were welcomed back to U.S. soil by family Monday at Fort Stewart, Ga., after a nine-month deployment in Eastern Europe.

The nickname “Dogface Soldiers” dates to World War II.

The unit supported NATO operations as part of Task Force Marne, according to the U.S. Army. The soldiers trained alongside allied forces where they conducted live-fire exercises and coordinated military partnerships across the region.

The division expects more deployed units to return in the coming weeks, WSAV.com reported.
