A soldier stationed at Fort Polk, La., was charged by federal prosecutors last week for saying online that he would kill Jewish people in a synagogue.
Spc. Jakob Marcoulier, 22, was charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana with transmitting a threat in interstate commerce, according to a Justice Department news release.
If convicted of the charge, Marcoulier faces up to five years in prison. He was arrested on April 23.
Audio clips obtained by the FBI from the platform Discord allegedly feature Marcoulier saying, “after this deployment if the Jews still have reign over our government, I am going to walk into a synagogue with my AK … and I am going to kill every single Jew I know inside of that synagogue.”
The release said that he made more threats to emphasize his seriousness, saying among other things that “you’ll see me in the news. I promise you.”
Marcoulier has served in the Army since July 2023 and is assigned to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), a spokesperson with the installation said. He completed one operational rotation to Europe and has received two Army Achievement Medals, the spokesperson said.
The FBI received an online tip about the Discord messages in February 2026. The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division investigated alongside the FBI, the release said.
