Soldiers finally earned bragging rights over airmen on the ice, though it took a shootout to do it.

Army toppled Air Force during their annual hockey matchup Saturday at George M. Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska.

Air Force, which leads the series 2-1, jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second period before Army surged ahead in the third. Another Air Force goal with only 38.3 seconds left in regulation tied the score at 6-6, forcing a three-man shootout.

Army took the shootout 2-0, securing its first victory of the series.

“Like anything in the armed forces, regardless of branch, you want to win. Period. End of story,” Army Lt. Col. Alan Brown, who helped organize the event, told the Alaska Dispatch News. “Afterwards, yeah, we’ll all go out and have a beer and shake hands.”
