Barksdale Air Force Base was placed on lockdown twice Friday, first over a reported active shooter and later after an injured shooting victim entered the Louisiana installation without authorization.
No injuries were reported among base personnel in either of the unrelated incidents, which remain under investigation.
The first lockdown began Friday morning after Barksdale received reports of an active shooter, according to a social media alert from the 2nd Bomb Wing.
Base officials did not immediately disclose what prompted the report, whether a weapon was found or whether anyone was detained in connection with the threat.
“The safety of Team Barksdale is absolutely paramount,” Col. Christ Cain, commander of the wing, said in a statement. “We are proud of the expert response provided by our emergency personnel who were able to quickly resolve the threat.”
Several hours later, Barksdale was locked down again as authorities responded to an unrelated incident involving a person who had been shot outside the installation.
That lockdown began around 12:53 p.m. after the injured person gained unauthorized entry to the base, according to an Air Force news release. Barksdale emergency personnel responded alongside local law enforcement.
Local authorities said the person had been shot, crashed a vehicle and then ran onto the base, KSLA-TV reported.
Barksdale personnel were told to barricade in place and prioritize their safety. Base facilities were closed and entry to the installation was prohibited while authorities searched the area.
The base announced an all-clear at 1:42 p.m.
Barksdale, in Bossier City, La., serves as headquarters for Air Force Global Strike Command, and its wing operates B-52H Stratofortress bombers.
