Air Force helicopter makes precautionary landing in DC

An Air Force UH-1N helicopter made a precautionary landing in Washington on Monday night after the crew detected unusual vibrations during a routine training flight.

“The aircrew landed out of an abundance of caution, as they are trained to,” a Joint Base Andrews spokesperson said.

The helicopter’s four crew members, assigned to the 1st Helicopter Squadron at Joint Base Andrews, Md., returned safely to the base, the spokesperson said. No damage to the aircraft was reported.

A maintenance crew was scheduled to assess the aircraft Tuesday morning to investigate the cause of the vibrations.

“Joint Base Andrews takes the safety of the aircrew and our surrounding community seriously,” the spokesperson said.

The 1st Helicopter Squadron provides rapid-response airlift for national security, senior leadership transport and supports operations across Andrews and the National Capital Region.
