An evacuation order was lifted after the discovery of a suspicious package at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming on Thursday prompted warnings and the establishment of a 1,850-foot cordon at a base gate.
Laramie County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the “scene has been cleared” in a post on Facebook. The base also confirmed “there is no active threat” but said that response personnel remain on scene “as a precaution while the investigation continues.”
The update came after the base listed 15 buildings with shelter in place orders. Personnel were initially asked to avoid the affected area around Gate 1 and to use Gate 5 for entering and exiting the base.
The incident came as several bases have reported suspicious packages, some of which quickly resumed normal operations. U.S. Northern Command ordered “heightened security” at all military installations in the United States in the beginning of March.
