12:01 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, Japan time: U.S. bases on Okinawa will enter Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness All Clear at 12:01 a.m. Dec. 1, signaling the end of the northwest Pacific’s tropical cyclone season.

All Clear applies to all U.S. bases on the island until May 31, then the 2019 tropical cyclone season begins and Okinawa will resume seasonal TCCOR 4.

Since Jan. 1, there have been 34 numbered storms, two above the annual average, including seven super typhoons. One of them, Yutu, was the strongest cyclone in the world this year and the second-strongest ever to hit a U.S. state or territory, leveling Saipan and Tinian in late October.

U.S. bases on Guam will remain in TCCOR 4 year-round, as Guam is in the tropics, where tropical disturbances can form at any time of year.
