97W Invest remains a potential tropical disturbance, is forecast to keep tracking northwest and is headed toward an unfavorable environment for development into anything big.

4:15 p.m. Sunday, June 25, Guam time: A small-craft advisory has been issued for Rota, Tinian and Saipan until 6 a.m. Guam time Monday by the National Weather Service.

Also, NOAA issued an advisory stating that lightning will accompany the developing tropical disturbance through 8 p.m. Sunday as it tracks northwest through the main Marianas Islands. Ponding on roads and local flooding is possible. PST out.

1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25, Guam time: A tropical cyclone formation alert has been issued on a disturbance about 120 miles east of Guam by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.

Guam’s National Weather Service issued a special statement at noon advising of scattered showers, isolated thunderstorms, occasional heavy rain and gusty winds Sunday into Sunday evening as it continues west-northwest.

Though early forecast tracks show a generally northwest path, it’s too early at this point to say if the disturbance will threaten the Philippines, Taiwan or Okinawa; model guidance is all over the place at this point. We’ll keep a sharp eye on it. PST out.
