Frankfurt, West Germany, August, 1966: Boxer Sonny Liston's entourage clowns for the camera, but the enigmatic ex-heavyweight boxing champ, second from left, seems reluctant at best. At left is Liston's chief trainer and advisor, Joe Polino; the others are assistant trainer Nate Richardson and sparring partner Jim Robinson. Liston — hoping for a rematch with nemesis Muhammad Ali that would never take place — was on his way back to the U.S. after winning two European fights by knockouts.
Stars and Stripes' 1966 story about Sonny Liston in Germany.
