Ted Rohde ©Stars and StripesRAF Lakenheath, England, June, 1970: Princess Anne, the 19-year-old daughter of Queen Elizabeth II, is given a bouquet of flowers by student Deborah Fieffer at the new Lakenheath Elementary School. Looking on is Maj. Gen. John H. Bell, commander of the 3rd Air Force. During her visit to the base and the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing, according to a Stars and Stripes story, the princess "met six F-100 pilots and crews, visited the 48th Tactical Hospital, officially opened the $2 million elementary school and chatted with the cheering school children, ate the rehearsed luncheon in the Officers Club, and then flew back home to London."
