Joe Gromelski ©Stars and StripesWashington, D.C., March, 2007: Medal of Honor recipients John Finn, right, and Paul Bucha talk at a Capitol Hill gathering of over two dozen men who received the nation's highest military honor. On December 7, 1941, Navy Lieutenant Finn stood in an exposed area at Naval Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, and fired his .50-caliber machine gun at strafing Japanese planes until he was ordered to leave his post and seek treatment for several wounds. Feisty John Finn died in May, 2010, at age 100; during the 2007 gathering, he had bemoaned the fact that he wasn't being allowed to ride any of the motorcycles he kept at his home in Hawaii.
