Carl Myering ©Stars and StripesTokyo, October, 1953: After presenting New York Giants manager Leo Durocher with the traditional "key to the city," Tokyo Vice Governor Hikoichi Haru accepts a banner from the Giants in return. The exchange took place prior to a game with the Tokyo Giants, the first in a 14-game schedule for Durocher's team. The Americans won, 11-1, behind home runs by Jim Rhodes and future Hall of Famer Monte Irvin, and the pitching of Al Worthington and another player destined for the Hall of Fame, Hoyt Wilhelm.
