Da Nang, South Vietnam, May, 1967: Competitors in the second annual "Da Nang 500" steer their go-karts through the one-eighth-mile course in the Marine Corps' Vietnam version of the traditional Memorial Day weekend race at Indianapolis. The cars were built from salvaged and obsolete parts, and each driver was permitted to use a two-man pit crew to help out during the 10-lap, 1¼-mile event held on the maintenance battalion's athletic field. The winner was Cpl. Don Wermter.
