Tokyo, August, 1956: With no elevators available to move inventory from one floor to the next, workers at an Army furniture lending warehouse pass items up and down between floors. Warehouses in the Tokyo area provided U.S. servicemembers and their families not only with bigger items like sofas and rugs, but even with smaller home furnishings like lamps, dishes, draperies and silver.
