Munich has something for everybody. Sure, it’s a cliché, but in the case of the capital of Bavaria, it fits as well as a snug pair of lederhosen.
Aachen and Bamberg are my two favorite cities in Germany. Both reek of history and drama, their medieval sections are wonderful, and, in my opinion, they have the best cathedrals in Europe.
In Bavaria, several of Roman outposts remain standing and are open to visitors, but it is in Weissenburg that this old world meets the new in a way that is as compelling to history buff as it is to average tourists.
