It came down to the final weekend of the season to decide the girls champions in DODDS-Europe Region II and Region III basketball.

Patch, the defending Division I European champion, broke a tie for first with Heidelberg on Friday night to capture Region III with a 43-32 victory. Ramstein earned a tie with Kaiserslautern for the Region II crown with a 38-28 victory the same night.

Patch (13-1), Kaiserslautern (12-2), Ramstein (11-2) and Heidelberg (11-3) will face off in one of the most competitive divisions when the DODDS-Europe championships take place in Wiesbaden this week.

SHAPE (13-1), the Region I winner, and Naples (8-2,) the Region IV champ, were both idle and will be among the top seeds in the Division II tournament.

Patch 43, Heidelberg 32: Friday in Stuttgart, Janelle Loney scored 27 points as the Panthers avenged their only loss of the season earlier in the week at the hands of the Lions.

Patch led 25-11 at halftime. Loney finished with 13 rebounds and 13 steals. Rebecca Luna (11 points) and Romina Fears (10) led the way for Heidelberg.

Ramstein 38, Kaiserslautern 28: Friday at Ramstein, MacKenzie Crews scored 11 and Samia Ladner 10 as the Royals avenged a one-point loss to the Red Raiders earlier in the season.

The defensive battle got especially intense in the third period, when Ramstein put up only three points, but limited Kaiserslautern to one. Amber Perryman and Medina Gregory each scored seven points for K-town.

In other games of note:

Vicenza 61, Aviano 57: Saturday at Aviano, Sella Pauling scored 32 points as the Cougars split a weekend series with the Saints and ended up tied for fourth in Region IV.

Kyerha Smith had 33 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort for Aviano, with Katlyn Atchley adding 10 points and 13 rebounds. Both led the way for the Saints in Friday’s 44-41 victory as Smith scored 21 and Atchley added eight and pulled down 15 rebounds. Pauling had 11 points in Friday’s loss for Vicenza, which got 13 points Friday and 10 points Saturday from Tatiana Miranda.

Black Forest Academy 42, Schweinfurt 38 (OT): Saturday at Kandern, the Falcons finished a non-regional sweep of the Razorbacks by outscoring their visitors by a totals of six points in two games.

Michaela Fortune had 19 points for BFA in the two wins. Diandra Quashie had 11 points for Schweinfurt on Friday in a 30-28 loss. Ashley Leach (12 points) and Shadaia Gamble (11) led the way Saturday. Hannah Harrop had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons on Saturday.

Brussels 34, AFNORTH 22: Friday at Brussels, Aleeza Vitale and Sindu Shahu led a balanced scoring attack as the Brigands topped the Lions.

Brussels (9-4) finished near the top of the Region I standings and will be one the teams to be in this week’s Division III tournament.
