YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan – Dre Paylor is starting to pile up touchdowns the way he collected yards last season. And Nile C. Kinnick continues to benefit as a result.

The fleet junior rushed 12 times for 143 yards and five touchdowns, giving him nine for the season, and the Red Devils cruised at home Friday over Robert D. Edgren 42-0, improving to 3-0 on the season while dropping the Eagles to 0-3.

Despite the victory, in a game played with a running clock most of the way, coach Dan Joley said the Red Devils have much yet to do, with the bulk of their Division I schedule still in front of them.

“We still have a lot to work on,” Joley said, citing the offensive line’s struggle to pick up blitzes among other things. “We always look for these things in each game, they will always be the focus.”

Paylor has 543 yards on 53 carries this season. George Calbert played quarterback for much of the second half and rushed seven times for 138 yards and a touchdown. Kyle O’Brien added 91 yards on seven attempts. Bryce Cherrstrom had nine tackles, three of them sacks.

While the Red Devils picked up their second shutout of the season, The Eagles lost by shutout for the second time this year.

“We need to get better,” said coach Bill Schofield, who coached the Kinnick junior varsity in the 2000s. “We need to learn how to hit.”

Next for Kinnick comes a home Division I battle with Seoul American on Saturday, while Edgren goes right back on the road to visit Zama American on Friday.

“We told the guys, ‘Feel good for about 10 minutes, then on the 11th start thinking about Seoul,’” Joley said. “That’s a big game.”
