GirlsDivision I

Seoul American FalconsCoach — Randall Sangalli, first season.Key performers — Glenesha Berryman, Sr., MB; Jeanne Meneses, Jr., setter, def; Sarah McFadden, So., OH, libero; Latisha Dolford, Jr., MB-OH.Overview — Rebuilding-reloading. Sangalli becomes the Falcons’ fourth coach in five seasons, after more than three decades of stability at that post. Berryman is the last connection to the successful Falcons teams of the early part of the decade.

Kadena PanthersCoach — Delma Bernal, first season.Key performers — Mia Savoy, Sr., MB; Jaeda Flores, Jr., OH; Rheagan Wyche, Jr., setter-OH (transfer from Daegu); Raleigh Hart, So., OH-libero; Victoria Cardiel-Santos, Jr., OH-def. (transfer from California); Kayla Harrison, So., libero (transfer from Florida).Overview — Rebuilding, with yet another new coach. A young bunch, and because so many rookies came out, the school created a freshmen team with an eye toward the future. Panthers got lucky with experience and veteran savvy in the transfer round; Wyche played for Far East Division II champion Daegu last fall.

Kubasaki DragonsCoach — Mike Hogen, sixth season.Key performers — Crystal Sieber, Sr., RS; Sara Frazier, Sr., RS; Lianna Bourdony, Sr., OH-libero; Josie Daffin, Jr., MB; Kaelyn Francis, Jr., OH-MB; Kelsey Rogers, Sr., OH; Jordyn deLeon Guerrero, So., def (JV moveup); Maddie Trumble, So., OH (JV moveup); Chloe Stevens, Fr., WH; Lianna Manual, So., libero (JV moveup).Overview — Contending. Hogen calls this team easily the best one in his tenure at the helm. First six has potential to play with anybody, provided they gel as a unit and play with a team-first mentality. Good a shot as any to reach the Far East Division I Final Four for first time since 2005.

Nile C. Kinnick Red DevilsCoach — Anthony San Nicolas, second season.Key performers — Charla Johnson, Jr., setter; Noblae Wainwright, Sr., MB; Audri Salter, Sr., MB; Rhyssa Hizon, Sr., OH; Shakita Samuels, Sr., OH; Katrina Reid, Sr., MB (transferred from Zama).Overview — Reloading-contending. Red Devils have dominated DODDS Japan and finished second the last three years at Far East D-I. Kinnick has the height, speed and jumps; it’s the skills that need developing, San Nicolas says. In Reid, Red Devils get arguably one of Zama’s best players in the transfer round.

Yokota PanthersCoach — Rachel Alcorn Wood, first season.Key performers — Langley Sonnenberg, Jr., OH; Kristiane “Kissy” Sonnenberg, Sr., OH; Sarah Claypool, Sr., MB; Sarah Cronin, Jr., OH; Kristi Coleman, Sr., setter; Christina White, Jr., OH; Caitlyn Rowan, Jr., MB.Overview — Reloading. Wood, who played college ball at Ball State, becomes the Panthers’ fourth coach in four seasons. The tools are there for a good run, but overcoming Kinnick’s dominance of recent years might be asking a lot. Panthers have not reached the Far East Division I Final Four since 2004.

Division II

Zama TrojansCoach — Vera Jordan, first season.Key performers — Destiny Howze, Jr. (sat out last season); Jauren Jones, Jr.; Kaci Sanders, So.; Natasha Hunter, So.; Alli Chiarenza, So.Overview — The mother of all rebuilding jobs. Jordan, with Chrismond Raga in his third year assisting the program, must start over completely; every last player from the Far East D-II runners-up either graduated or transferred. Everything will depend on how well and quickly the new players can develop.

E.J. King CobrasCoach — Steve Selby, first season.Key performers — Jenasea Blessing, Jr., OH-MB; Gabrielle Hidalgo, Jr., OH-MB; Angel Bronder, Sr., OH; Saori Yoshioka, Jr., libero; Shinoa Lonesky, So., setter-OH; Eliana Salinas, So., OH; Azaria Fowler, So., MB-OH; Anjanette Natividad, So., libero; Samantha Beaudet, So., def.Overview — Rebuilding-reloading. Cobras get their fourth coach in four seasons in Selby. Numbers continue to rise and Cobras also have a handful of freshmen who show promise. Not much height, as usual.

Matthew C. Perry SamuraiCoach — Patricia Swiderski, second season. Key performers — Dina Roman, Sr., OH-libero; Ani Erhart, Jr., MB; Lebet Erhart, So., OH-MB; Tenacity Clayton, Sr., OH; Angel Cadavos, Fr., setter.Outlook — Rebuilding-reloading. Key to the Samurai’s fortunes will be how quickly Cadavos can fill the shoes of graduated setter Lakeyia Brown; plenty of freshmen, but the potential is there. No question the Samurai possess the height in the Erharts. Won first four matches to open season.

Robert D. Edgren EaglesCoach — Sarah Richardson, 23rd season.Key performers — Kalean Middleton, Jr., OH; Madeline Mattingly, Sr., MB; Coko Magby, So., MB; Essence Prince, So., OH; Naomi Montanez, So., MB; Nicole Marquez, Sr., setter.Overview — Contending for Division II title honors. Potentially the best team on coach Sarah Richardson’s 23-season watch. Replacing departed middle blocker Natalie Gammel will be tough. Middleton ready to step up and lead, Richardson says. Much will depend on how quickly Marquez develops at setter.

Osan CougarsCoach — Caylen Dakin, fourth season.Key performers — Michele Thompson, Jr., OH; Andrea Carandang, Jr., OH; Sarah Colthart, Jr., OH; Martha Smith, Sr., defense; Kristin Ramer, Sr., MB; Jada Carnine, So., MB; Haeley Deeney, Jr., setter.Overview — Reloading-contending. For the first time in 15 years, the Cougars have multiple players with height in Ramer and Carnine to go with their complement of small outside hitters.

Daegu WarriorsCoach — Fari Mendez, first season.Key performers — Taylor Myatt, Jr., OH; MiKayla Tavares, Jr., def.; Ariyana Canty, Jr., MB; AnaMalae Tia, Jr., setter-OH (transfer from Hawaii).Overview — Rebuilding. Osan CougarsCoach — Lar’Nique Lunsford, first season.Key performers — Darren Miller, Jr., MB; David Solak, Sr., WH; Cyrus Calelena, So., OH; Nick White, Sr., OH; Chase Kingsbury, So., MB.Overview — Rebuilding. Fifth coach in five years. Kingsbury played football last year and Nick White basketball.

Daegu WarriorsCoach — Justin Treisch, first season.Key performers — Joone Abaya, Jr.; Shawn White, Jr.; Sean Lynch, Sr.Overview — Rebuilding-reloading. Short on numbers, hoping to become competitive.
