It didn’t come in the league postseason tournament, but coach Steve Boyd said his Seoul American team would gladly take Friday’s 2-1 home win over Taejon Christian International, the latest installment of what’s blooming into Korea boys soccer newest rivalry.

Ben Mitchell scored his fourth goal of the season in the 77th minute off an assist by Jason Lee to snap a 1-1 tie. Andrew Nutter had leveled the match with a penalty kick in the 58th minute. Danny Shin put the Dragons in front with his fourth goal of the season early in the first half.

The match was remindful, Boyd said, of the teams’ title match in the Korean-American Interscholastic Activities Conference Five-Cities Division tournament last April 27, when the Dragons handed the Falcons their first loss in 16 matches 1-0.

“It was very similar. Almost played out the same way,” Boyd said of how that match and Friday’s started out strong for TCIS, then the Falcons would dominate play in the second half. In the KAIAC final, Seoul American outshot TCIS 22-6 but couldn’t put the ball in the net.

“This time, we put up constant pressure and finally got it done,” Boyd said. The Falcons improved to 7-1 with four matches left in the KAIAC Blue Division regular season. TCIS, which hosts the KAIAC Blue boys tournament April 25-26, fell to 4-4-2 with two matches left.

On the girls side, senior Gentry Miller, better known as a defender most of her high school years, has proven quite capable as a striker for the Dragons girls.

Miller, who had last scored in the 2012 season, has netted back-to-back hat tricks in the last two matches, each victories, including TCIS’ 3-1 win Friday over Seoul American. After starting the season 0-6-1, the Dragons now have a two-match winning streak.

Elsewhere in KAIAC Blue, Yongsan International-Seoul won its boys and girls matches 6-3 and 6-1 at Humphreys.

Daegu’s boys and girls teams each forfeited their matches Friday at Seoul Foreign and will do the same Saturday at YIS-Seoul. Neither team had enough players to field a complete side.

On the track, Kubasaki’s boys and girls swept the team titles in the 2nd Oki Relays, which ended with Friday’s high jump, the only event not held on Thursday’s rain-filled first day. Dragons senior Josie Mitchell got her first career title with a jump of 4 feet, 3 inches.

Seoul American’s baseball team swept its two games at Humphreys, 11-3 over Osan and 16-0 over Daegu. Falcons softball got a two-run home run by Janade Amos to cap a five-run third inning of a 13-6 victory over Daegu.

E.J. King and Matthew C. Perry split their DODDS Japan twin bill on Friday, each game ending in walk-off fashion, the Cobras winning the opener 9-8 and the Samurai the nightcap 15-13. They played two on Friday after Thursday’s first game was rained out.
