Division I

South KoreaSeoul American Falcons 2013-14 season record — 17-6 overall, seventh in Far East Division I Tournament.Head coach — Dean Florio, first season.Key performer — Glenesha Berryman, Sr., F.Outlook — Rebuilding. Just four on roster returning from last year, with two of them sophomores. Seven new players on the team, all ninth or 10th graders. New coach, new philosophy and system.

JapanNile C. Kinnick Red Devils 2013-14 season record — 17-7 overall, 11th in Far East D-I.Head coach — Mike Adair, first season (assisted Heather Heatherly.Key performer — Shakita Samuels, Sr., G; Charla Johnson, Sr., G; Rhyssa Hizon, Sr., G.Outlook — Rebuilding-reloading. Much speed and heart; that triad of experience is coupled with returning seniors Ray Duncan and Areon Massey. Otherwise, a young team; more than half are freshmen. Replacing Alyshia Allison, the heart of the team the last two seasons, will be a tough task.

OkinawaKadena Panthers 2013-14 season record — 15-10 overall, second at Far East D-I.Head coach — Willie Ware, fourth season.Key performers — Jasmine Rhodes, Sr., G/F; Alicia Vaughan, Sr., G; Elva Harris, Sr., F; Linda Vaughan, So., G; Brea Garrett, Sr., F; Aira Shankles, Sr., G; Tiarra Edwards, Jr., F; Rheagan Wyche, Jr., G (transfer from Daegu); Rhamsey Wyche, Fr., G (transfer from Daegu); Brenda Gulley, Jr., F.Outlook — Contending. Slew of returning veterans augmented by the Wyche transfers augur well for a team hoping to take the final step after two Far East runner-up finishes and a third-place finish the last three years.

Kubasaki Dragons 2013-14 season record — 13-14 overall, fifth at Far East D-I.Head coach — Jeremy Walker, first season.Key performers — Josie Daffin, Jr., C; Shae Burke, Sr., G; Leigh Trumble, Sr., F.Outlook — Rebuilding. Much of the core of last year’s fifth-place team is gone, along with veteran coach Bob Driggs. Youngsters must step up and contribute significant minutes, Walker says.

Division II

South KoreaDaegu Warriors 2013-14 season record — 19-6 overall, defending Far East D-II champion.Head coach — Ed Hearn, second season.Key performers — Taylor Myatt, Sr., post; Ariyana Canty, Jr., post; Brooke Spring, Sr., G.Outlook — The mother of all rebuilding jobs. Every component from last year’s championship team is gone except for Myatt. And without a JV team last year, many of the Warriors will be seeing action for the first time.Humphreys Blackhawks 2013-14 season record — 1-20 overall.Head coach — Ashley Gooch, second season.Key performers — Ra’mecca Rasun, Sr., F-C; J’Asia Rasun, Jr., F-C; Sha’Nissa Rasun, Fr., PF; Sophia Nocera, Sr., F; DaiJonnai Smith, So., SF; Kaylee Spielman, So., G.Outlook — Still building, though Gooch says she’s looking forward to building a lasting Rasun legacy. The older ones and Spielman are a year older, a year wiser and might give the Blackhawks hope down the road. With the new talent the Blackhawks have inherited, Gooch hopes they can become a contender later this season.

Osan Cougars 2013-14 season record — 6-12 overall, ninth in Far East Division II.Head coach — Sung Plourde, first season.Key performers — Andrea Carandang, Jr., G-F; Michele Thompson, Jr., G-F; Sarah Colthart, Jr., SF-PF (All-Far East); Jada Carnine, So., F; Claire Cooper, So., C; Cha Cha Mazych, So., C.Outlook — Rebuilding. There’s a small core of players – some who won the Far East D-II volleyball tournament title – which could give something of a boost to the rest of the ranks. Will be taller than past Cougars teams, with the addition of Carnine and Cooper. But most of Plourde’s players are underclassmen.

JapanYokota Panthers 2013-14 season record — 8-15 overall, 13th in Far East D-I.Head coach — Kitty Martinez, second season (assisted Tim Pujol last season).Key performers — Sarah Claypool, Sr., F; Sarah Cronin, Jr., G; Caitlyn Rowan, Jr., C; Paige Gall, So., G; Jasmine Strong, Fr., C; Jamia Bailey, Fr., G.Outlook — Reloading. Youthful roster, but with some important pieces in Claypool, Rowan and Cronin who could help the team contend down the road. Strong and Bailey are young, but have played plenty of ball in the youth ranks; Bailey is a skilled ballhandler and playmaker. Much promise in this group, which stands a reasonable shot at a D-II title.

Zama Trojans 2013-14 season record — 16-7 overall, third in Far East D-II.Head coach — Vera Jordan, third season.Key performers — Destiny Howze, Jr., F (All-Far East); Tiara Carroll, So., G (All-Far East); Ally Chiarenza, So., G; Zhandra Graham, Jr.; Kacey Sanders, Jr.Outlook — Reloading. Good core of three with two JV move-ups who could make for an exciting season for the Trojans.Matthew C. Perry Samurai 2013-14 season record — 2-14 overall.Head coach — April Kelley, third season.Key performers — Naomi Ziola, Jr., G (all-Far East); Ani Erhart, Jr., C; Lebet Erhart, So., F; Bobbi Hill, So., G; Sakura Fleming, So., F; Angel Cadavos, Fr., G.Outlook — Rebuilding. Good core of height and experienced guard play in Ziola, but Samurai will ask for help from other sports, Hill from cross country and soccer, Fleming from soccer and Cadavos from volleyball to help shore up the ranks.E.J. King Cobras 2013-14 season record — 8-13 overall, fourth in Far East D-II.Head coach — Yvonne Long, third season.Key performers — Gabby Hidalgo, Jr.; Zanitta Boyd, Fr.; Anna Small, Fr.Outlook — Rebulding, with just one returner who saw significant minutes.Robert D. Edgren Eagles 2013-14 season record — 10-12 overall.Head coach — Sarah Richardson, 25th season.Key performers — Vanessa Black, Sr., PG (all-Far East); Coko Magby, So., F; Essence Prince, So., F; Courtney Ruble, Sr., G; Alyssa Rodriguez, Sr., G (all-Far East).Outlook — Reloading. All told, 12 players return, seven of whom saw action in Far East. Two freshmen will have to step up immediately. Can be competitive, but need more games to keep up with teams that have more in-season competition.
