A school-record four Guam High players were voted by league coaches to the 2009 Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam’s boys basketball All-Star teams, the league announced Tuesday.

Junior guard D’Andre Weaver and junior forward Derrell Brunner were each named to the All-Island First Team, while junior Erick Lang and senior James White got the nod for the All-Island Second Team.

Weaver averaged 11 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.1 steals. Brunner averaged 10.7 points and 13.2 rebounds per game.

The selection announcement comes on the heels of the Panthers claiming the regular-season championship in the league’s Gadao Division, and three weeks after taking a school-record seventh place in the Far East Class AA Tournament at Yokota High School.

Guam High ended the regular season a school-best 11-2 and will take aim at its first league title in the IIAAG playoffs, which start next week.

"I’m really proud of this team," said Joseph Taitano, in his fourth year at the Panthers helm. "That’s what happens when the kids work hard. The kids coming back knew my expectations … the role players understood their roles … It’s a team effort, why we finished this high."
