The contenders continue to fall.

The defending DODDS-Europe Division I girls basketball champion Wiesbaden Warriors this weekend dispatched another of the teams that will challenge for their crown at next month's European tournament. Wiesbaden won both halves of a home-and-home series with the Ramstein Royals, winning 39-28 on Friday and 36-33 on Saturday.

Friday at Ramstein, the Warriors built a sturdy eight-point halftime lead, held the home team to just two points in the third and cruised to the victory. Catherine Klein and Rebecca Russell cracked double digits in points with 11 and 10, respectively, while Cierra Martin collected a game-high 14 rebounds.

Saturday at Wiesbaden, the reigning champs withstood a tougher test from a resurgent Royal team. Ramstein stormed back from another halftime deficit to trail by a single point entering the fourth quarter before the rally stalled. Martin's 12-point, 10-rebound double-double carried the day for Wiesbaden.

Ramstein deployed a balanced offense throughout the doubleheader. Friday's game saw four Royals score exactly six points, including Amethyst Rorie, who added a team-best nine rebounds. Ashley Mateo stepped forward on Saturday with a game-high 13 points.

The undefeated Warriors have now swept doubleheaders against Division I rivals Lakenheath, Vilseck, Patch and Ramstein, not to mention defending Division II champion Black Forest Academy. They'll round out their regular season next weekend with a home-and-home set against another Division I opponent, Kaiserslautern.

Black Forest Academy 43/46, Ansbach 22/7: At Kandern, Germany, the Falcons enjoyed Friday and Saturday routs of the Cougars.

Senior Emily Campbell scored 11 points in each game to lead BFA, which ably recovered from suffering its first two losses of the season the prior weekend against Wiesbaden. Cailyn Campbell posted game-high totals of 12 points and eight rebounds Friday, while Hannah Harrop led all scorers with 14 on Saturday.

Aviano 42, Florence 3: Saturday at Aviano, the balanced Saints blasted their in-country rivals.

Ashley Mills, Jasmine Cole and Jazmine Bell scored eight points apiece for Aviano. Cole grabbed nine rebounds, Mills added six steals and four assists and Bell swiped five steals.

The meeting was originally scheduled to be a Friday-Saturday doubleheader, but travel delays scuttled Friday's opener.

Lakenheath 43/35, AFNORTH 32/17: At Lakenheath, the Lancers recorded consecutive double-digit wins.

Lilli Estus and Adrianna Ruffin posted matching 15-point efforts as Lakenheath opened the doubleheader with a Friday-evening victory. Estus led all scorers the next day with 19.

Dejah Quick controlled the boards all weekend for Lakenheath, grabbing 12 rebounds on Friday and 10 more Saturday. Grace Phillips led the Lions with a combined 24 points on the weekend.

Patch 50/40, Hohenfels 13/13: At Stuttgart, Germany, the Panthers pushed their winning streak to four games entering the stretch run of the season.

Point guard Marissa Encarnacion poured in a combined 29 points over the two blowout wins. Treshon Jenkins matched Encarnacion's game-high 14 on Friday. Jaxen Godfrey led Patch's rebounding efforts with 13 combined on the weekend.

The Panthers are tasked with a tough late-season schedule featuring only fellow Division I competition. They'll head to Ramstein on Friday before finishing up with a home set against Vilseck.

Vicenza 56/49, American Overseas School of Rome 17/11: At Vicenza, Italy, the Cougars set their sights back on the usual Italian competition a weekend after hosting a pair of Division I foes from Germany and routed Division II AOSR.

Vicenza’s Emma Knapp sunk 26 points between the two days of play and accounted for 14 rebounds, eight steals, six assists and two blocks.

AOSR’s Christina D’Alessio accounted for 10 of the 28 points the Falcons managed to come away with.

Alconbury 23/29, SHAPE 17/33: At Mons, Belgium, the Dragons took advantage of a shorthanded Spartan squad to record the Friday upset, but SHAPE recovered Saturday.

Dealing with the absence of several key frontcourt players, SHAPE went scoreless in Friday's first quarter and never recovered from the early deficit. Ariyon Booker scored eight points, Jada Griffin added seven and Harveysha Booker chipped in six as Division III Alconbury knocked off Division I SHAPE.

The Dragons launched another upset bid Saturday even as SHAPE returned two of its forwards to the lineup. Begona Rodriguez posted her second straight 12-point scoring effort as the Spartans broke a tie entering the fourth quarter and earned the split.

Bitburg 50, Baumholder 17: Saturday at Baumholder, the Barons completed a Friday-Saturday sweep of the Bucs with a second straight blowout victory.

Saoirse Matthews led all scorers with 12 and Bitburg teammate Destiny Walker joined her teammate in double digits with 10. Baumholder's Eliyah Tillman stockpiled seven points, five rebounds, seven blocks and two steals in defeat.

Division II Bitburg extended its winning streak to nine with the sweep, a run that started on Dec. 13 with an upset over Division I Ramstein and continued the weekend of Jan. 23 and 24 with four total wins over divisional rivals AFNORTH and Rota.
