VICENZA, Italy -- The Vicenza Cougars recorded their first win of the DODDS-Europe Division II football season Saturday night with a 16-8 defeat of the visiting Naples Wildcats.

Cougar quarterback Peter Toves served as the versatile centerpiece of the Vicenza offense, including both of the team's touchdowns. Toves ran six times for 52 yards and a touchdown, completed five passes for another 56 yards and caught two passes for 14 yards, including a touchdown reception from Paul Zielinski.

The win is a boost for Vicenza's fragile hopes of returning to the Division II postseason a year after it made an impressive run to the semifinals. The 1-2 Cougars round out the regular season over the next two Saturdays with a home game against Aviano and a visit to Hohenfels.

Naples, also a 2014 divisional semifinalist, is at risk of missing out on the postseason after a 0-3 start in which it has yet to score more than the eight points it produced Saturday. The Wildcats need a win next weekend against rolling Hohenfels to avoid elimination.
