RAF ALCONBURY, England -- The visiting SHAPE Spartans eked out a 13-12 win in a rain-soaked Division II showdown with the Alconbury Dragons on Saturday.
The constant downpour left both teams prone to drive-ending fumbles and miscues. SHAPE running back Trey Kirklen carried the Spartans, collecting 267 rushing yards and a touchdown. The SHAPE pass game came through with the game-winner, a 55-yard strike from Noah Parker to Noah Bradsher.
Freshman running back Adarius Gallon carried 25 times for 165 yards and a touchdown; teammate Chris Dufresne collected 59 rushing yards and the Dragons' other score.
SHAPE, coming off a run to the European championship game, improved to 2-2 and buttressed its playoff hopes with the victory. The Spartans can lock in a winning season with a home win over International School of Brussels next weekend.
Alconbury dropped to 0-4 and won't advance to the eight-team Division II playoff bracket. The Dragons will seek to avoid a winless season against Menwith Hill/Woodham.
