When the 2012 European high school softball championships open Thursday at Ramstein High School and Kapaun Air Station on the hill above Kaiserslautern High School, Kaiserslautern will be chasing a bit of school history, Naples will begin its quest for a fourth straight Division II title, and at least one of the five D-III teams, who enter this event with a combined 3-36 record, will emerge from the three-day event a winner.

Ramstein, Patch seeded to meet in final again

Unbeatens Patch and Ramstein on Monday drew the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively, for this week’s European Division I baseball tournament, while once-beaten Naples was named No. 1 in the combined Division II-III event. Both tournaments are to be conducted Thursday-Saturday on two diamonds at Ramstein Air Base and one at Kaiserslautern.

Naples takes title; AFNORTH clinches share

With a week to go in the regular season, the Naples girls wrapped up a regional soccer title, and the AFNORTH girls clinched at least a tie for one with Saturday victories. Naples claimed Region IV with a 5-0 blanking of visiting International School of Florence to improve to an uncatchable 6-0, and AFNORTH improved to 1-0-1 against Region I big schools by downing International School of Brussels 2-1.
