ROTA, Spain -- Two of DODEA-Europe’s Division II football elite clashed Saturday, and the showdown didn’t disappoint.

The host Rota Admirals earned a 34-29 win over the Bitburg Barons in a key North region matchup that carries huge implications for the already approaching European tournament.

A year ago, Rota won this same matchup 21-8, avoiding a premature meeting with reigning champion Ansbach and setting up for a run to the European title game. With the rest of the North field likely playing for third behind the Admirals and Barons, that same scenario could play out this year.

Rota’s high-powered offense gleaned contributions from all over its versatile roster. De’Ontae Bradley posted 150 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns. Sam Gallardo threw for 140 yards and a touchdown. Jake Anderson ran for 78 yards and a score.

Bitburg nearly matched that output behind its own diverse approach. Trey Bowles, Tyriq Zvijer, Javian Rouse and Jimmie Montgomery each had a touchdown for the Barons.

Rota’s Andy Drake had a game-high 15 tackles, while Zvijer had eight tackles and three sacks.
