ROTA, Spain -- Meet the newest member of the DODDS-Europe football elite.

The host Rota Admirals completed an undefeated regular season, clinched the No. 1 spot in the upcoming Division II playoffs and knocked off one of the continent's most storied programs Saturday with a 21-8 defeat of the visiting Bitburg Barons.

The win represents another huge step forward for one of DODDS-Europe's newest powerhouses. After going winles in 2013, the Admirals earned a playoff berth in 2014. This fall, they'll host at least one playoff game - against No. 8 seed Alconbury - and will enter the postseason atop the eight-team bracket.

Rota's 5-0 regular-season record matches that of defending champion Ansbach. The Admirals take the top seed due to the higher quality of the opponents they've beaten.

Andres Torres led Rota with 117 all-purpose yards, including a rushing and a passing touchdown. Marc Magwood added 148 all-purpose yards and a touchdown on offense while returning a 95-yard fumble return for a score. Armani Walker led the Admirals with 12 tackles.

Bitburg, meanwhile, now faces a tougher road to the Nov. 7 championship game. The Barons will still host a home quarterfinal next weekend against No. 6 Aviano, but are now in line to travel to Ansbach in the semifinals if both favored teams advance that far.
