Naples stays unbeaten by routing Vicenza
VICENZA, Italy - The unbeaten Naples Wildcats clinched at least a tie for the Division II-South crown and the home-field game in the European Division II semifinals that goes with it with a 39-0 road victory Saturday over the Vicenza Cougars.
No details about the Naples side of the game were available at press time on Saturday, but the Wildcats’ defense, which has allowed just 21 total points in the Wildcats’ five victories, held Vicenza’s leading rusher on Saturday, Ethan Fullmer, to just 32 yards on 10 carries. Fullmer’s teammate, Terrell Gandy, rushed five times for 27 yards before spraining his ankle in the first quarter, according to Vicenza coach Adam Ridgley.
Carl Wilkerson topped the defense for Vicenza (1-3-1 overall and 1-3 in II-South) with 13 tackles. Jerome Farmer added eight stops and Derick Grice six.
Next up for Naples is a home showdown against Ansbach; Vicenza is to close out its season the same day in Schweinfurt.
