Lakenheath football preview capsule

Lakenheath Lancers

Head coach: Matthew Martinez
Last year: 1-5, missed playoffs.
Key games:  Sept. 15 vs. Wiesbaden, Sept. 22 at Filton.
Even though they graduated last year’s DODDS-Europe all-star tandem of Joshua Everson and Alleric Jones, the Lancers might still have the building blocks for run at the playoffs in the form of quarterback Alex Asbury, tight end, defensive end  Kylde Capogna, running back-linebacker James Griffin, two-way lineman Ian Hudak, running backs Glenn Jones and Xavier Thompson and defensive back-wide receiver A.J. Ransom.
“We are pretty deep at the skill positions,” emailed Lakenheath coach Martinez, “and look for Alex Asbury, Xavier Thompson, Glenn Jones and A.J. Ransom to be productive for us.”
Thompson and company provide speed to make the Lancers’ wing-T gain ground, and newcomers Ben Ciero and Zach Adamson, both offensive linemen, are expected to help returnee Ian Hudak lay the groundwork for the skills performers.
Ciero and Adamson also line up at linebacker, a key position in Martinez’s 3-5 defense.
The Lancers will get an immediate assessment of their playoff chances on opening day, when D-I champion Wiesbaden comes to call.
