Kaiserslautern football preview capsule

Kaiserslautern Red Raiders

Head coach: Aaron Scalise
Last year’s record: 0-6, missed playoffs.
Key games: Sept. 15 vs. Vilseck, Sept. 21 vs. Heidelberg.
To hear second-year Kaiserslautern coach Scalise tell it, the Red Raiders can dispense with jersey numbers this season.
“Our strength this season is one built around building a program in which each student member becomes a vital asset and contributes greatly,” Scalise wrote in a preseason email. “We certainly uphold ‘less of I and me; more of us and we’ at KHS.”
Although the Red Raiders open the season mired in an eight-game losing streak stretching back to 2010, no one’s discouraged.
“We look forward to the challenge this season may bring,” Scalise wrote, “and welcome the competition.”
The challenge begins opening day, when the Red Raiders – whose last victory came on Oct. 2, 2010, 37-20 over Lakenheath – host powerful Vilseck.

2012 schedule

Sept. 15: Vilseck
Sept 21: Heidelberg (no JV)
Sept. 29: at Lakenheath
Oct. 6: Patch
Oct. 13: at Filtom; JV at Wiesbaden
Oct. 20: at Ramstein
