The landscape has shifted in Italy, and teams are rising to the occasion.

American Overseas School of Rome became the latest Italian entry to impress Friday and Saturday, sweeping visiting Sigonella in a pair of double-digit decisions.

AOSR guard Otis Reale poured in 68 points on the weekend, with game-high totals of 33 on Friday and 35 on Saturday. The Division II Falcons built solid first-quarter leads on both occasions and saw them through to the final buzzer.

Greg China offered capable support for the Falcons with a combined 24 points on the weekend, including a double-double effort of 17 points and 10 rebounds Saturday.

Chris Moore was valiant in defeat for Sigonella with 28 points Friday and 18 on Saturday.

After Reale's star turn fueled AOSR's sweep this weekend, nearly every team in Italy has already had a signature moment in the young season.

Division III Sigonella earned a split with Division I Naples, which handled Aviano on Friday night. Aviano opened its season with consecutive routs of AOSR. Vicenza, meanwhile, enters the holiday break at 4-0.

Vicenza 58/64, Marymount 25/28: At Vicenza, the 2013-14 Division II European champions, now 2014-15 Division I contenders, made quick work of an old foe.

Randall Bagtas scored a weekend-best 26 points Saturday to help the Cougars complete the sweep. Mario Molina added 16 points on Saturday.

Josh Bulgin led all players with 11 points and eight rebounds in Friday's Cougar win.

Hohenfels 61/56, Vilseck 53/67: The Bavarian rivals played to a home-and-home stalemate Friday and Saturday, with each recording a road win.

Hohenfels came out strong Friday evening, building a 35-18 halftime lead that weathered a sustained Falcon rally. Vilseck reversed its fortunes Saturday, constructing a 37-29 lead and maintaining it for the duration.

Justin Standifer posted consecutive double-doubles for Hohenfels, totaling 13 points and 12 rebounds Friday and 10 points and 13 rebounds Saturday. Teammate Clayton Pinheiro led the Tiger offense with 18 points Friday and 24 on Saturday.

Gabriel Lewis was effective throughout, scoring a game-high 19 points and adding nine rebounds on Friday and matching Pinheiro's game-best 24 on Saturday. He added eight rebounds, seven steals and seven assists to his victorious Saturday effort.

Baumholder 39/33, Brussels 24/31: At Baumholder, the Bucs completed a sweep of the Brigands, the defending Division III champions.

The Bucs built a 20-6 lead through the first quarter on Friday and cruised to a double-digit win. Saturday's rematch was tougher, as the Bucs edged in front of the reigning champs by five points at halftime and soldiered through a low-scoring second half to survive.

Jaylon Bentley reached double figures in both games for Baumholder, scoring a game-high 15 on Friday and adding 10 on Saturday. Josh Conde produced an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double Saturday while tacking on five steals and three assists to his impressive stat line.

Ramstein 57/78, Bitburg 17/31: The Royals cruised through a home-and-home meeting with the Barons, triumphing on the road Friday and at home on Saturday.

Xavier Harper led all scorers with 22 points in Friday's rout.

Trey Bailey scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds and Isaac Moreno added 14 points to complete the sweep Saturday.

The unbeaten Royals now head into a month-long recess; they'll face rival Kaiserslautern on Jan. 13.
