BRUSSELS, Belgium – The International School of Brussels Raiders won a hard-fought, injury-plagued Division II showdown Saturday, edging the visiting Vicenza Cougars 26-20.
ISB jumped out to a 12-0 lead early, but a Vicenza score just before halftime halved the advantage. The Cougars similarly rallied from a late 26-6 deficit to pull within a score, but their potential game-saving final drive stalled with a turnover on downs with seconds to play in regulation.
Masahiro Yamagishi rushed for 72 yards, a touchdown and a two-point conversion for the Raiders. Quarterback Len Pick found Marten Pardo on a 10-yard touchdown strike.
Hamad Al Thani recovered a pair of fumbles for ISB.
Max Monnard carried the Cougars with 198 rushing yards, 91 passing yards and two touchdowns. Peter Toves added a touchdown and a two-point conversion while collecting 58 total yards from scrimmage.
J.D. Whitlow and John Silabaugh made six tackles apiece for Vicenza. Vicenza falls to 0-2 on the season entering regional play next weekend. The Cougars will need a win over visiting rival Naples to avoid a losing regular season.
ISB puts its 2-0 record on the line in its own regional opener at fellow unbeaten Rota.
