Hohenfels football preview capsule

Hohenfels Tigers

Head coach: Ed Lynch
Last year: 2-4, lost 44-0 to Bitburg in D-II quarterfinals
Key games: Sept. 15 at Naples; Oct. 12 vs. Ansbach
Vilseck transfer David Vidovic, a sophomore running back and outside linebacker, turned heads at last month’s Top Gun camp, where he was the co-MVP. He will be running behind an experienced line anchored by Andrew Becker, Patrick Vass, who also lines up at fullback, and Brandon Reed, coach Lynch reported in an email. That’s huge, because Lynch flatly stated that the success of his team in 2012 “will be determined by the maturity of our offensive line and our running game.”
Sophomore guard Trevor Tufts, at 220 pounds, adds heft to the offensive line; the defense is in the hands of middle linebacker Kile Zeltner, a 254-pound nose guard; Reed, a 230-pound defensive tackle;  newcomer Chris Terrell; DB Jonathan Whitford, and junior defensive tackle Julian Byles, who also plays quarterback and tight end.
The Tigers will get an indication of their prospects for returning to the playoffs on opening day, when they journey to Naples.
