Flake, Voorhees lead Ansbach past Aviano
ANSBACH, Germany - DeMar Flake ran for 227 yards and two touchdowns, and senior quarterback Jake Voorhees ran for one touchdown and passed for another Saturday to lead the Ansbach Cougars to a 42-14 Division II-South victory Saturday over the visiting Aviano Saints.
Flake scored on runs which covered 1 and 31 yards, and Vorhees plunged a yard for a TD and passed 8 yards to senior Xavier Cage for a second tally, according to Ansbach coach Marcus George. Dorian Jones ran 33 yards and Brian Debel eight for Ansbach’s other two touchdowns.
The victory left Ansbach, 3-1 overall, with a 2-0 league mark going into Friday night’s conference game at Hohenfels. The Cougars are tied for the conference lead with Naples, which was scheduled for a non-conference tilt Saturday against Schweinfurt.
Elijah Smith, on a 23-yard run, and Alex Ramos, with a 15-yard rush, scored the TDs for Aviano (2-2 overall and 1-2 in II-South). Most of Aviano’s offense, however, came through the air, with senior Mike Trujillo passing for 240 yards. His classmate Andrew Bert had 163 yards receiving.
Aviano’s offensive output came in the face of an Ansbach defense led by Josh Peake and All-European Raheem Beatty. Each made three tackles for a loss, and Peake added a sack.
Next up for Aviano is non-conference test Saturday against visiting Bitburg.
