Flake scores three times in Ansbach win

ANSBACH, Germany - Demar Flake rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to spark the Ansbach Cougars to a 36-19 victory over the visiting Vicenza Cougars.

Flake scored on runs of 4, 6 and 29 yards, and quarterback Jake Voorhees ran in from 3 yards out as Ansbach (2-1) won its II-South conference opener.

For the day, Voorhees completed three-of-10 for 55 yards and surrendered an interception to Vicenza’s Derrick Grice.

Vicenza’s Ethan Fulmer uncorked the big bang of the day when he broke a 91-yard kickoff return TD. His teammate Terrell Gandy, who carried the ball seven times for 100 yards, accounted for Vicenza’s other two touchdowns, running 77 yards for one and hauling in a 42-yard pass for another.

The rest of the time, the Ansbach defense, led by two tackles-for-loss and a sack by senior Kevin Rouse, two sacks by Josh Pleake and a tackle for loss by junior Brian Debel, kept Vicenza in check.

Ansbach hosts Aviano, another II-South rival from Italy, on Saturday, the same day Vicenza (0-2-1) returns home to entertain Hohenfels.
