Bristol gains playoffs by downing Wiesbaden
WIESBADEN, Germany - Quarterback Tom Clancey passed for three touchdowns Saturday to lead the visiting Bristol Academy Pride to a 19-12 Division I victory over the Wiesbaden Warriors.
Clancy connected with Dan Vickery for scoring passes which covered 50 and 20 yards to lift the Pride to a 12-0 halftime lead over the 2011 European Division I champs.
He connected with Jack Fry for a 22-yard scoring toss after intermission to provide the eventual winning margin for the Pride (4-2), which moves on to a Saturday European D-I semifinal game at Ramstein. Ramstein downed Bristol Academy 47-10 at home in Sept. 15.
Wiesbaden, which completed its season 1-5, mounted a second-half comeback on lineman Daniel Mattner’s 2-yard scoring dive and a 22-yard touchdown pass from Carlos Grinter to Rey Moi Lewis with a minute to go. The Warriors were unable, however, to recover an attempted onside kick on the ensuing kickoff.
Bristol’s Tunde Akindele lead all rushers with 105 yards on 18 carries; Grinter led Wiesbaden’s ground game with 13 carries for 75 yards. Wiesbaden freshman Keyshawn Greene ran 10 times for 67 yards.
