Bamberg stays perfect with romp over Alconbury

BAMBERG, Germany - Taking a deep breath after their close call the previous Saturday at Sigonella, the Bamberg Barons rolled to a 46-6 Division III victory Saturday over the visiting Alconbury Dragons.

Quarterback Andrew Reed ran for touchdowns that covered 3, 7 and 57 yards, and Bamberg’s other quarterback, Leontae Lockett, ran 7 yards for one touchdown and passed 28 yards to Kaleb Flammang for a second score as the Barons improved to 3-0 for the season.

Bamberg, which escaped from Sicily the previous week with a 31-28 verdict over Sigonella, was never pressed this time and led 26-0 at halftime.

The Barons, who are scheduled to visit Baumholder on Saturday in a showdown of D-III unbeatens, broke running backs Tracy Crockett and Andray Gibson for long TD runs. Crockett covered 69 yards on his scoring dash; Gibson 59.

Terrence Hamilton intercepted two passes for the Bamberg defense, which came up with a total of five turnovers. Lineman Eric Worstall led the Bamberg tackling chart with eight stops.

Alconbury (1-3) is scheduled to host Menwith Hill on Saturday in the annual U.K. D-III showdown.
